The seller has got it running, but with a miss. Wait a minute! I thought you said this was an SS396, Jamie? Well, it is, but unfortunately around 30 years ago, the 396 was replaced with a 1968 Chevelle 327 small block. And yes, those are air conditioning vents under the dashboard. But how would you look if you had been sitting under a lean to for 27 years? Yeah, you’d be a little rough looking as well. Obviously, the inside could stand some help. I do appreciate the seller showing us the underside of the vehicle, though. Under the car does look pretty solid, although everything does have a healthy coating of surface rust. You can also see some headers and aftermarket speakers in this photo, so if you are looking to return this El Camino to stock, you’ll have some work on your hands. However, the holes you typically see at the bottom of the front fenders are there. The seller tells us that the vehicle has solid floors and around the windows, where some of this particular vintage El Caminos have a tendency to become perforated. It looks like the paint that’s on it is original and the vinyl top is still there. This clean looking car/truck has a few rough edges (as we’ll show in some later pictures) but is generally pretty smooth. Bidding is starting at $5,000 with a reserve, but $7,500 would buy it now if you are so inclined. While it was produced in Fremont, California based on the VIN, it’s spent most of its time in Utah, and is currently in Cedar City. However, this one looks real and comes with documentation that’s shown in the listing here on eBay. We’ve seen a lot of SS badged Chevrolet vehicles that turn out to be just that badged. So if you want it all, all you have to do is be the first to grab this deal. When I first saw that this was an SS396 El Camino, I immediately was suspicious. This El Camino has been given the right investment for power, comfort, and style. The same goes for the power steering, rear sway bar, modern ZR-rated tires, and four-wheel power disc brakes with drilled & slotted rotors. The TH400 three-speed automatic is a stout unit that shifts cleanly, and so it provides a good balance of power and all-around driving appeal. The V8 fires up eagerly, and the cam really helps make a nice rumble out of the Flowmaster dual exhaust. You also have good supporting components, like a serpentine belt system and an aluminum radiator electric fan. It's topped off with a Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection system that allows you to dial in added power and consistency. 040 over kit, a mild cam, aluminum heads, an Edelbrock aluminum intake, and long tube headers. This 350 cubic-inch V8 has been built right with a bored. The dark inner walls of the engine bay funnel all your attention to the small block in the middle. Of course, the Sniper EFI control screen on the center console is the largest indication that you're going to like what's under the hood. You'll love slipping behind the Grant GT sports steering wheel, and the large column-mounted tach and auxiliary gauge trio get you ready for something powerful. You have modern comfort with an AM/FM/CD stereo w/Bluetooth, upgraded speakers, a center console, and cold-blowing air conditioning. This includes the bucket seats which have the kind of bolstering to hug your body as you'd find in a modern sports car. For example, the saddle tan color always gives us a premium impression, especially when its fundamentals have been freshly replaced only about a year ago. The interior gives you more of that speedy style, but now it also adds sophistication. Because while you may like the look of the bumpers and the grille, it's really the shine of the 18-inch Vision wheels (and those red calipers peeking out from behind them) that captivate your attention. Even the brightwork contributes to the intimidation factor. And there's a nice contrast with the tinted windows and liner paint in the bed. The aggressive nature even gets better with the addition of the large cowl hood. Since it's a modern application, this one takes a commanding color and gives it a luster that loves to shine. Hugger Orange is an aggressive Chevy color that we always love to see. But everything from the custom/comfy A/C interior to the four-wheel disc brakes lets you know that the investments here go beyond intimidation and make for a terrific all-around driving classic. This 1968 Chevrolet El Camino has an aggressive color and an aggressive fuel-injected small block.
